I always would think to myself that if I were in the shoes of the men that fought and died for us during the first and second World War's, I would've been one of the brave ones. Someone that would've charged out of a trench or a foxhole without hesitation to take down the enemy. Someone that would instantly lay down his life so others could live on. This film really makes me think twice about what I would've done in those horrid times. As this is the finest example of a military related film I have seen in the last 22 years, you feel like you are there along side those unfortunate souls standing in the trenches. Its terrifying. There were 4 moments in particular where I found myself not being able to take a breath, frozen in fear of what was going to happen next. This is all thanks to the GOAT himself, Roger Deakins. If he doesn't pick up his second academy award this year i'm going to petition it as a crime against humanity. This movie is complex on so many other levels though. The set design is astounding. Another oscar i'm sure this film will pick up. Directing was top notch (I admit i had my doubts about Sam Mendes because of Spectre but he has completely redeemed himself on every level) and I can see Medes picking up his first oscar this year. If you're a person that loves military films like myself, you'll love this movie. If you're a person that hates military films, you'll still love this movie. It definitely leans more to the side of anti-war, as I don't think anyone can say the events that transpired during the 19-teens had any bit of positivity after viewing this film. Death and destruction is what you'll see unfold before you instead of bonds being made between men like most war films showcase. I can't wait to go see this film again. I doubt were going to receive a WWI piece like this again anytime soon.
No offense meant to Hildur Guðnadóttir but the entirety of Joker's score doesn't hold a candle to the power in this piece.

Cant believe how moved I was watching this video. Im in tears lol it was amazing to see all the hard, rigorous work that occurred behind the scenes to make such a beautiful movie. Watch 1917 (2019) Online freedom. I had one of the most cathartic and euphoric experiences I've ever had watching this scene. It completely took my breath away, and reduced me to tears. Thomas Newman is one of the absolute greats of film composition, and he deserves way more recognition than he gets. And Roger Deakins' cinematography is some of the most exquisite I've ever seen. Such a remarkable and powerful film.
What a great movie all in one shot, brilliant, compelling, stunning war drama which you will have a great time watching from start till finish. The cast is brilliant to watch, keeps you hooked to their characters absolutely no off putting elements there's literally nothing that can put you off while watching this great film, so yeah you will have a great time with this one.

All show and no tell. Very well done movie. I can't believe the amount of work they put into set locations and backgrounds that were only in the movie for moments. The one shot feel really set a new precedence as well. Also, having been in the Marines, this movie does a fantastic job with behaviors and acting around enlisted, officers, and rank in general. This one deserved every award it got.

When you mentioned the date 6 April 1917 as significant, I had thought of the commencement of the Battle of Vimy Ridge which was three days later on the 9th of April. For those who arent up on their WW1 history, this was the battle that finally pushed the Germans off the high ground on the Arras sector by the Canadian Corps. Historians have looked at it as the turning point on the Western Front from which the Germans never recovered, henceforth becoming the “beginning of the end” for the Kaisers Forces. I saw the movie the other day, and I didnt even think of it as the day the US declared war. Actually, that makes more sense. I must say that as an amateur historian (Im self taught through reading a lot about history, not formally educated on the topic) that I was suitably impressed with the attention to detail and technical accuracy of the film. Many times in WW1 films, you see some Lee Enfield Mk III and III* models which were used by British and Commonwealth troops which they used, however interspersed among the soldiers you find some Mk 4s (WW2 vintage) and some American Springfield 1903s because of their superior numbers and availability to the movie makers. All of the rifles I saw were Mk IIIs (and Mauser K98s for the Germans of course. The uniforms were accurate as were the aircraft as well. I only noticed a couple of times where people were referred to by the wrong rank (Lance Corporal referred to as “Corporal”) but that was it. Obviously, they must have hired a good technical advisor to have that degree of attention to detail. I had made a personal pet project of mine to study the Great War in detail. I had recently researched the fate of my Great-Grandfather who was Missing in Action on the 3rd of May 1917 and has no known grave. I had crawled around many of the WW1 battlefields retracing his footsteps, and finding the cemetery where he may be buried under a headstone marked “A Soldier of the Great War” of which there are many. Its unfortunate that many people know so little about the “War to end all wars” and how it shaped our world today. It seems to be a forgotten chapter.

Interesting concept of shooting in as few takes as possible, and definitely a technological feat, that works pretty well and contributes to the immersion. That being said, there were certain points where I feel the film could've used some cuts (those sharp turns in the trenches were fuggen' rough, bro.)
I'm thoroughly impressed at the insane scale of the set they built, and therefore the fact that we never see a location twice.
The character pulls some real BS "i'm the protagonist, so I live" which irked me a little bit. But alas, twas still solid!
the acting was excellent, definitely helped move me while watching it.
Music was somewhat overbearing at times, but otherwise did the job.

Watch 1917 (2019) online free hd. This was an amazing movie, I cannot expressed how much I loved seeing this. The music and the scenery was incredible. I praise these guys for making this movies. The principal actor, George MacKay, is brilliant in this role. He was able to say so much while not saying a word. His anguished, pained expressions were authentic and even when reciting lines, he would do so with an undercurrent of dejection. He portrayed his role utterly brilliantly, and I wish for him as many roles as he fancies, for he's got immense talent.

I just saw this movie it was a spell bound emotional roller coaster of our men service during the japan invasion of pearl harbor in 1941 the graphics of the planes crashing and all the scene of shooting and honoring our brave elite men are off the hook if your heart is weak take caution go see this movie you wont be disappointed fantastic. movie. *Female voice in the background. “We lost objective Butter” Jesus!
